Recover sensor data

Step 1. Open the Kivi to access the USB port

  • For the ellipse shaped Kivi, first use the 2.5mm hex head screwdriver to remove the bolt, then open the casing.
  • For the sphere shaped Kivi, first use the 2.5mm hex head screwdriver to loosen the two bolts, then rotate the top or bottom part of the case to be able to open it.

  • Plug in the micro USB cable.

**NOTE: if the sensor does not appear as a USB storage device, your USB cable may for power only. Try using another micro USB cable.

Step 2. Accessing the SD card

  • Navigate to the storgage device on your computer with the same name as the sensor.

Step 3. Select the file for recovery

  • Select the raw sensor data files which have the .txt file extension and copy them to your computer. The memory of the MicroTag sensor is 1GB, so it is not necessary to delete files after downloading them. Instead, we suggest moving them to the Archive folder.

Example raw data file: S041220181619.txt

  • Each time the sensor is started, a new file is created.
  • "S04" is the sensor name.
  • "1220" is the month and day, December 20th.
  • "181619" indicates that the sensor was turned on at 18:16:19 where 15 is the hour, 31 is the minute and 18 are the seconds.
  • The real-time clock keeps the date and time accurate to 10 seconds / week. You can update the clock time using the time.txt file, see Sensor settings in the menu bar above for how to update the date and time.

  • Note: the data is saved in a binary format!
